Last day in Toronto. Tomorrow we fly into Regina and will ring in the new year there, since it isn’t cold enough for us here. How Canadian is that.
Went to TIFF Lightbox to see the Kubrick film in 70mm. Released in 1968 its vision of the future was amusing. Here’s a shot from the TIFF bar looking onto King Street.
Ive been here about 8 hours now, our fixer Nik picked me up at the airport and gave me the nickel tour. Then it was time for a sleep. later after I awoke and showered I went to the old market for a snack. Some kind of spinach dish, then walking home a canon shot out to mark the end of fasting. It is Ramadan. Walking back I could hear the calls to prayer filtering outside into the street. I aint in Kansas anymore.
Being a photographer has it’s up and downs. Today was definitely up. A few thousand feet up. A helicopter flight in a British Army Gazzelle. And as good fortune had smiled on me for a shoot on great day my pilot is also a combat camera photographer. Being a photographer he was the perfect pilot for my visual needs and had removed the doors for an unobstructed view in the back seat. I look like a kid on the special bus. Beautiful day, great warm weather and the best seat in the house.
