One year since I (retired) time flys. I could have been busier but I gave the myself the first year as a vacation, staycation really, I didn’t really go anywhere outside of a visit to Toronto to see my dad and some close friends. Apparently there are stages in retirement and farting around for the first year seems to be the norm. In any event the pandemic kept us all in our little boxes. Retired is such a loaded word. Although I qualify as retired it was really just about getting out of a job that was promised to me as a career but a career it certainly wasn’t. It was a good job and I stayed for the money and the perks, the job made many promises of professional training and travel and to some extent it did that but I worked as support to the aspirations of others. So just like it was for me at DOW Chemical 30 years earlier I planned an exit strategy and after 2 years of planning and preparing I got out of the government job. A small pension, health care and some savings and Im going into my 60’s with a safety cushion and opportunity to do something meaningful. That means finding a another home first, this one has served its purpose but does not meet our needs. Rayanne, me, Herman our cat and Matti our dog. But where is this new beginning going to be? I cannot answer that, at least not yet. I do know that photography will be part of the future. And so it goes……
